Growth charts for Husky puppy to adult?
Q. Does anyone know where I might find a growth chart on the size difference of a husky from age 4mos. to a year? Or pictures? Just curious as to how much they grow from 4mos to 6mos to 8mos...etc.etc...TX!

A. I don't have growth chart, but I have two Huskies. I got them both at about 6 months, and have had them for about 8 months. My female was 35 pounds when I got her and is settling in around 45 pounds. My boy dog was also about 35 pounds and is up to about 50 now. She hasn't gotten any taller, but he's grown an inch or two. They both get plenty of food and exercise and are very fit.

A. The growth for any puppy relies on a number of things: firstly genetics, then nutrition and then environment. It is no longer the norm for people to use growth charts for noting if their puppy is under or over weight/height. The size it will reach will approximate that of its parents and if they were full grown by 1 year then so will your puppy. Your puppy should put on weight every week while not being fat until fully grown ie it looks in proportion, no longer appears like a puppy and starts to be fatter. All giant breed dogs (even mastiff mixes) must be on a large/giant breed diet to slow growth. These dogs a predisposed to getting growth deformities from growing too quickly. Dont worry, your puppy will still reach the size he/she was… [cont.]

Is there some sort of "growth chart" for German Shepherd puppies?
Q. Just want to make sure that ours is doing ok. Obviously she goes to the vet regularly, but I want to check in the meantime. She is 15 weeks. She weighs 12kg (26.5 lb) and she is a purebred girl.

Help with puppy growth stages?
Q. I have a Standard Poodle puppy. He's six months old, and I would like to know how big he will be as an adult. Does anyone know where I can find a growth chart or something that will give me an indicator? Actually, that's not true at all. Shiba Inu's are quite small, and though some Standard Poodles are about border collie sized, that would be considered quite small. No Standard can ever be shorter than 15 inches. Dillon's sire was 23 1/2 inches, 55 pounds. What I'm wondering is if 6 months represents 50% of his total growth, or if it's generally skewed one way or another. I think he may get bigger than his dad, and I'd like to know if that's likely. Wow, I just measured my puppy, and he's already 22 1/2". I know he'll grow more in… [cont.]

A. Dogs grow much more quickly as young puppies and then the growth slows down considerably once they reach 5 or 6 months. So even though we consider 12 month old dogs to be adults, the 6 month mark does not represent 50% of their total growth. I believe my vet usually tells owners that the dog is about 50% of their adult weight at 3 months. A general rule of thumb that seems to work for most dogs (at least it worked out to be true for my friend's two mutts and for my german shepherd) is that they tend to be about 2/3 of their adult weight at 6 months, meaning they still have 1/3 of that weight left to gain. So if you had a 6 month old puppy that weighed 60lbs, 1/3 of 60lbs would be 20lbs. Add 20lbs to 60lbs and you get around 80lbs as… [cont.]

Q. Were can I find a growth chart for corgi puppies?
Asked by conradpem - Tue Mar 20 15:08:56 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. welsh corgis - male & female - depends on age. by 4 mos, males average 12 -15 lbs, females 9-12. At age 15 mos, pretty well full size. Males should not exceed 32; females 25. To measure whether starting to get too hefty, after 9 months, lightly press and massage with fingers along lower rib cage, should feel rib definition, and a lift or recession going into stomach area. If not present, check w/ vet for possible diet modification. If not a "working" dog, weight can be a problem = high energy dogs so need regular play time.

A. General rule of thumb double their wght at 12 wks. so sounds like about 12-13 lbs.. However w/Cocker in there I should think it would be much bigger. When you mix, there is really no way to predict.

Dog growth chart?
Q. Do they make a growth chart for papillon puppies- I've seen them for chi and yorkies.

A. Papillons are measured in breed standard by height at withers, not by weight as Chihuahuas and Yorkies are - which could explain why growth charts for the breed are less prevalent. Generally speaking, with your pup and as with any - even those for which charts exist - her weight as she grows is mostly going to depend on her genetics/lineage. If her lines were consistent with larger dogs, she'll likely be a heavier puppy, and a heavier adult. If her ancestors were smaller examples of the Papillon, you can expect her to be smaller. Good breeders know the pedigrees of their stock very well, and, because of the importance of correct size matching for Papillons for mating, can usually predict adult size fairly accurately - if you have any… [cont.]

A. I have found numerous weight chart for the GSD. What I have trouble finding is reliable height charts from 2 months until full grown. The GSD's growth plate is done or whatever the term is at 14 months. So that means they will not grow taller after 14 months. Do they really keep growing up to more than a year? What is your exerience. My 5 month old male is 21 1/2 to 22 in now. He doesn't apear to have grown into his feat or ears yet. Just wondering as in the long run you can't do anything about how tall they will be.As far as weight is concerned my vet and I have both gone by fealing the ribs ans how much they are covered up or not to guage weight.

A. The average weight for a 3 month male Irish wolfhound puppy is around 44 pounds, so based on that your puppy seems on the small side. But you need to take into account the size of his parents - are they on the small side as adults? If you're concerned, you should be contacting his breeders - they're the ones who know how their line matures. If you're still concerned, have the vet check him out.

A. Congratulations! Might not be "fun" but you can start learning about basic training, researching dog food, find out about obedience classes in your area, you don't say what breed he is, but if he's a pure bred, you can try to find a breed group in your area, research the breed itself, order crate, toys, leash, collar, make an appt with the vet for the week of the 14th to have him checked out...just like having a baby, there's lots of things to do to get ready!

Chiapom Weight?
Q. I have a half chihuahua half pomerianian mix puppy. She is now 3 1/2 months and weighs about 4.5 pounds. I was wondering how big she would get. Her dad is only 4 lbs (the chi) and her mom is about 7 (the pom, but like 5 without the hair). She was one of the smallest of her litter and has drastically slowed down growing... only like .5 pounds every few weeks. The puppy growth chart says she'll get really big... but is that really that accurate?

A. There are no growth charts for mutts. You can only guess that the puppies will be somewhere between chi and pom, or bigger or smaller. I can pretty much guarantee you that the dog will not be really big.

Anyone Know Where to Find Weight Charts for Golden Retrievers?
Q. I have an 8 month old male golden retriever that weighs 70lbs and a female golden retriever that is 16 weeks at 30lbs. Is there any way to predict their adult weight is they continue to grow at this rate? They do not seem to fit into any growth chart that I have seen. They are both very healthy and not overweight. When I took my boy to the vet when he was a puppy, he said that his adult weight would be between 60 -70lbs. He is not done growing and has already hit the vet's top weight for his predicted adult size . Any resources that I can find to help me out? Thank you in advance!

A. You take the dogs weight at 4 months - multiply it by 2 and then add 20% - this give a great estimate on what any dog should weigh when it reached adulthood. 16 weeks at 30 lbs 30 x 2 = 60 + 20% = 72 pounds

A. Hard to say without a picture, are the parent really large. I have been around dogs for years and years and saw the biggest GSD yesterday that I have ever seen, almost as big as an Irish Wolfhound. If the Vet says he is not overweight he should know, if the dog has a 'waist' that is a good indication. Check what you are feeding and make sure it does not contain a lot of filler like corn. Go to the webside dogfoodanalysis.com and find out how the food you are feeling rates. Best wishes and be sure you are doing lots of training! Now is the time before he becomes bigger and out of control. Good luck

I haven't picked him up from the breeder yet, she is keeping him until 14 weeks. You know people who start assuming you dont know anything is really starting to make me mad. I found a great breeder who breeds championship dogs. I got her name from the president of the papillon club. AND yes I did pick him. He was friendly, cute, playful and healthy just like all the rest of the puppies. He is the smallest, but a runt to me is a undersized sickly dog, and that is not him. So seriously maybe you… [cont.]

A. The standard for small dogs is to triple the weight at 12wk or double at 16wk for adult weight. So likely you are looking at 6 -7 lb dog grown. Of course your pup could be a late bloomer & end up growing more.

Is this a normal size?
Q. Hello, long time no see. My question, my male Great Dane will be 7 months on the 10th of January, as of right now he weighs in at 94lbs. he is not leggy and is not the "grey hound skinny" that people often use to refer to their growing puppies. anyway he is not fixed, my vet said not until he is a year. i have seen the growth chart on all-about-greatdane.com and it says he is normal but everyone i talk to says he is going to be a small undersized dane. what do you think

A. He's only seven months. Your description suggests he might be somewhat heavier than ideal for his age, you do want to be able to see some ribs. He does sound more or less normal. There are so many things you do not mention, how are his growth plates... these plates indicate how much he's storing for a new growth spurt, how much more he plans to grow etc. The slower he grows, the better. The lighter he stays, within reason, you don't want his hip bones sticking out, the better. Who is everyone you talk to, because if they are not other experienced Dane people, what they say means nothing at all. Many people seem to think they know a lot about these dogs, but most do not. This is a very special animal, and you should get advice from… [cont.]

Is he going to be a GIANT or a tiny tim?
Q. A little background. I have a darling little puppy, and to put it bluntly I brought home what looked to be a 1 week old puppy seperated waaay to early from momma and I spent the next several weeks bottle feeding, stimulating, de-worming, weaning and now training. Fast forward, he is a healthy 8 weeks old. It is my impression he is a bull/terrier mix of some sort. Can't really find growth charts to give me a generalization, but it would be helpful to know what size crate I need to buy for this guy, he's in a small/medium crate now, but will outgrow it soon and I don't want to keep buying crates. He's approximately 8 weeks old and weighs 15 pounds. Can't tell by feet, my last dog had teeny tiny feet and turned out to be 75-80 pounds… [cont.]

Can anyone provide an estimate of how much will my pitbull will weigh at various stages & when full grown?
Q. I have looked all over for some kind of weight by age chart but have been unsuccessful. She is currently 13 weeks old and weighs 30lbs. I ask purely for health reasons so that I may better monitor her growth to make sure she is on a healthy track. I am an experienced dog owner but need a little extra breed specific info. Also, can anyone recommend a good food for pits. She is currently eating Science Diet Large Breed Puppy (both wet and dry) but I have heard some bad things about the brand recently. Any suggestions?

A. This really depends on if it is a purebred Pitbull. If it isn't, it is rather difficult to determine the weight. ADD: To expand more on my answer: Alot of people (not including or excluding you) aren't completely sure what a Pitbull truly is. So if it is mixed with an Am Staff...or PRT or Boxer...it will vary ALOT in weight and growth at certain stages.
