How compatable is a daschund dog with a boxer/pit bull mix ?
Q. I currently have a dottie who is almost 2years old and am considering adopting a 5 yr old pitbull/boxer mix. I'm wondering how compatable they will be or if anyone can offer any input on what to expect as far as behavior is concerned. There are childeren in the house alone with two cats aswell.
Asked by AprlShwrs - Thu Jun 21 13:23:51 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. My only concern would be that the boxer/pit would be too hyper and damage the daschunds fragile back... Personality wise, mine gets along with great danes, jack russells, viszlas, chows, chihuahuas, lab/bassett mix, etc... But he doesn't like children or cats... so, you are lucky if your doxie likes kids and cats... I'm envious...

Can I take my 2 month old Lab/Boxer mix jogging with me in the morning?
Q. I'm wondering, can I take my 2 month old Lab/Boxer mix jogging with me in the morning? Is he too young? When can I take him with me?
Asked by Jen - Thu Aug 23 11:23:35 2007 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You can take him with you when he's done growing... at about 18 mos or 2 years. Until then the growth plates are open and you risk doing serious damage. Running on pavement is vastly different from running on snow (sled team) or on grass in the park. Even people who are serious marathon mushers do not hook up a pup to a sled until he's at least a year old (they let them run along side... which means they can stop when they need to).

Does anyone have a pointer/boxer mix? What is their personality like?
Q. I'm thinking about adopting a pointer/boxer mix and wondering how they would do in a medium size apartment while I'm at work.
Asked by Jflem21 - Tue Apr 15 16:20:00 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I'm sorry to say that it will be difficult to have a boxer/pointer mix in an apartment all day. Both of them are extremely energetic dogs and require a lot of exercise. However, I have seen a layed back pointer so, you should spend some time to see what kind of temperment they have. I have 2 boxers and even though I am able to leave them for 5-6 hours in their crate during the day, they need to have a lot of room to run for the rest of the day. If not, you begin to have a lot of obedience issues simply from pent up energy, such as chewing and barking. I am all for having a dog in an apartment, but don't feel that a sporting or working dog would be a good option.

A. Who knows with a mix. A pug is sufficiently smaller than a boxer so as a disadvantage you may experience health issues. Both breeds are very different and you never know which traits you will get.

How much should a lab/boxer mix weigh? how much food should i be giving him a day?
Q. ive been giving him a gallon of food a day, and a gallon of water a day for about 6 months, he's 1 year old, and i cant decide if the boxer is coming out as far as the shape of his body or if im under-feeding him. I cant see his ribs, but i can kinda feel them when i pet him..not much tho, but his stomach area looks thin...just ... am i under-feeding him, or is it the boxer coming out? his mom was a boxer and his dad was a lab...i only feed him once a day. 1 gallon of food. like i said he has the structure of a boxer, with lab face..so i guess he'd take the boxer stance...and he's about 65 lbs.

A. he should way between 75 to a 100 pounds and two half galon meals would be better 1 in mourning 1 at night

My 2 year old boxer/pit mix is having loose bloody stool. What is causing this? Can it affect my new puppy?
Q. I have a two year old boxer/pit mix that I rescued in October. He is having loose bloody stool and has had it for a few days. I am trying to get him a vet visit, but am curious to what this might be. I just got a new puppy and don't want her getting sick either.
Asked by azmohr22 - Sun Feb 1 10:46:33 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You need to get both dogs to the vet ASAP! Bloody stool is always something that needs to be seen by the vet.You should wash both of their sleeping areas and food dishes with a solution of 1:10 bleach:water and keep them separate. Do not let them around the others' stool. If you just got a new puppy it may be that your older dog contacted something from the puppy. There is a puppy disease called parvovirus that causes bloody stool in dogs and puppies. It has a distinct smell and you may not notice the blood in the puppy's stool right away. There are other causes for bloody stool such as bleeding from the colon or rectum, parasites, colitis, or trauma. Get a stool sample from the dog and puppy and take them to the vet. In the meantime… [cont.]

I have a four month old boder collie/lab/boxer mix. What is the best way to potty train him?
Q. I already have potty trailing pads, and when he gets excited, he sometimes will pee before he lets us know he is thinking about it.

A. Dogs never go where they sleep or live if they can help it. Your dog is young so it goes when it can't hold it any longer. Try hanging a leash on the door knob and everytime you take your dog out have then sit at the door, and then place the leash on the dog. The dog will eventually fiqure out that the leash is a trigger and head to the door when it has to use the bathroom. Eventually they will bring you the leash. But at that age patience is the most important tool and advice I can give. Good luck Dizni and Melissa

How big will a boxer beagle mix dog get?
Q. me and my partner have just got a new puppy who is a boxer and beagle mix and our landlord would like to know how big the puppy will get. I wanted to know if anyone out there knows how big a female dog of those two breeds will get?
Asked by Katie - Mon Mar 30 16:27:23 2009 - - 8 Answers - 1 Comments
A. A female beagle can be around 25 pounds. Boxers get around 55 pounds. I would say the pup would get to be somewhere around 40 to 45 pounds but there is a chance of being bigger. I would recommend telling your landlord that she could get up to 60 pounds just to be safe.

How big will a boxer/pitbull mix get?
Q. My dog is a mix between a boxer and a pitbull, female. She is 8 months old last week, and weighed in at 36 lbs. I realize that all dogs are different, and we don t know her exact lineage (pound puppy), but I was wondering a general idea of how big she could get at her current rate, or if she was finished growing. Is there a growth rate, where dogs can expect to be a certain weight each month or something?

A. Between 30 and 50 pounds, depending on the individual pup. There is such a size difference between those two breeds that it's very hard to predict. I have a boston terrier / beagle mix but used to have a purebred AKC boxer. I expect you'll have quite the high-energy dog. Hope you adopted! Good luck & best wishes to you & pup.

Q. im getting a amstaff and boxer mixed dog and on the description it says she has a docked tail.

A. AmStaffs are not a docked breed. You are getting a mix that was docked by the "breeder" as if they were Boxers which are a docked breed. As they are mixes it doesn't really matter one way or another there is no standard for mixes.

Why does my 4 month old boxer/mix bite his legs and paws?
Q. I've noticed that he has been biting on his legs and paws. Does anyone know why? He does not have fleas. Is it just out of boredom? If anyone knows please tell me, thanks!
Asked by Marianne J - Tue Apr 14 12:29:49 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's often a food allergy. You might want to consider changing his food, making the change gradual to prevent diarrhea. If that's not it, he needs a trip to the vet to diagnose. A 4 month old puppy wouldn't chew on himself out of boredom unless he's not getting enough exercise and that's an easy fix.

Q. your nose in. I know it is sick and I would appreciate serious answers only. Thank you.

A. Dogs do that kind of thing... it's normal, several dogs I know run and lick up your snot when you spit, others steal the kleenex you spit or blow your nose in, still other dogs love rag time bathroom snacks, and others eat the crotch out of any underwear lying around. Dogs dont find that kind of thing gross, but the dont understand why we dont clean it up like they do, so they clean up all on their own. However it isnt good for them to eat these things so you should keep garbage cans with lids, or under the cupboard, close the bathroom door, and use a lid on your dirty clothes hamper... after all dogs will be dogs.

Labrador/Boxer mix to be classified as dangerous & destroyed?
Q. "Le Figaro" Newspaper reported on August 27, the French minister of interior, Michele Alliot-Marie, stating that certain dangerous mixbreeding such as a cross between Labrador & Boxer would soon be illegal !!! Okay, Pitt Bulls & Am'staff' can be dangerous if not properly kept by owners. But Labradors and Boxers? Of all the absurd (French maybe?) things to say! How would you react if it was in the US? Remember, if Europe passes "laws" like this, America will be pressured to follow.

A. On the face of it, this seems crazy. Labs are renowned for their sweet natures and the boxers I have come across have been soppy too, although I did hear a while back that boxers can be snappy due to over breeding. I don't know if this is true and it would be interesting to hear a vet's point of view. I can't see, myself, that this is a dangerous cross.

A. Your problems are just beginning unless you read some books or watch some videos on how to raise and train a dog. Boxers especially will challenge you right out of your home unless you begin some fundamental training. I recommend books by Cesar Millan, the Monks of New Skete, and Victoria Stillwell. Millan and Stillwell also have TV shows on Nat. Geo., and Animal Planet respectively.
