Old German Shepherd Dog (German: Altdeutscher Schäferhund) was the term used to refer to the breedless herding dogs used in Germany after the standardisation of the German Shepherd Dog, by Max von Stephanitz in 1899. The term is now used to refer to dogs whose bloodline relates to the dogs of the time but are bred for working ability and not to the official standard; the breed is not recognised by the FCI but has its own standard. Yes, I know how, but I use to work with a professional dog trainer, and this is not something anyone should attempt without a professional. I started with the trainer due to purchasing a Rottweiler that was beginner trained. It had her so confused and nervous, that she was potentially going to be dangerous. After the trainer helped me retrain her she was wonderful and I learned the proper way it should be done. So I advise you to find a trainer that will allow you to be there and you will benefit from it as well as your dog. If you have her properly trained she'll be a benefit to your family rather than a risk of you being sued and/or imprisoned, or her taking someone's life. Q. I've raised German Shepherds in the past and have kept from 1 to 3 for my protection and personal friends for the past 45 years. My oldest one was 13 when he died. My present friend will be 13 on 3/5/07. He has always had the best of health. He has mostly stayed in the house with me when I am at home, altho, he has his own Doggy Door & goes in and out whenever he wants. And he has always had a 1/3 acre yard to run in. Up to the past year he's only been to the Vet for regular shots & 1 hot spot. He is now experiencing deafness, and wobbly legs when he gets up in the morning, or from a long nap. I give him medicine for joints, vitamins, and good food and of course, all my love.
